Optically Contacted Zero Order Λ/2 Half Wave Plate, Optical Path Glue-Free Overview: Optically contacted zero order wave plate is made from two multiple order plates with slightly different thicknesses. The two plates are constructed by optically contacted method and this design allows the optically contacted zero order waveplate to operate well in relatively high power application and wide wavelength range. Optically contacted zero order waveplates also feature particularly fine wavefront distortion and parallelism as the optical path is glue-free.
A linearly polarized beam incident on a half-wave crystal quartz waveplate emerges as a linearly polarized beam, but is rotated such that its angle to the optical axis is twice that of the incident beam. Half-waveplates can therefore be used as continuously adjustable polarization rotators. Such waveplates are used to rotate the plane of polarization, as well as for electro-optic modulation and as a variable ratio beamsplitter when used in conjunction with a polarization cube.
